THICKLETES Give Back: Chicago

Every journey is different. Our differences make us who we are.

Who you are is enough.

Our goal is to link various intersecting Chicago communities by elevating and motivating women, of all ages, to move together. Oftentimes it is the lack of inclusion in the wellness industry that deters people from moving at all.

It is important to us that you feel both welcome and seen regardless of where you are on your path to health & wellness. It’s equally important that each and every woman has adequate access to wellness activities. We make it our business to donate both time and resource to communities that are often underserved and overlooked.

The events we host are meant to celebrate this very notion. We teach our girls running their first 5K with Girls on the Run Chicago and those participating in afterschool programs how to cheer for themselves. We teach every women that we come in contact with how to celebrate her self NOW! That she is just as worthy on her way to her goal as she is when she crushes it!

Saying iamTHICKLETIC affirms that you are all you need to be and our wish is to give you the tools to be all that and more.

THICKLETES Give Back: Cuba

 a note from NK:

Thickletes Give Back is an extension of my newly founded athleisure line, THiCKLETIC. I established this company with the intention of elevating all women through our inclusive collection and practice of expanding communities in the health & wellness industry. Thickletes Give Back gives us the opportunity to reach out to communities that lack such access.

Our mission in 2019 was to raise money through Thickletes Give Back: Apoyo para las Cubanas, to sponsor myself and my THiCKLETIC team to go Havana where I ran the Marabana Cuba Marathon and distributed 200 care packages to Cuban woman in need. On November 10th, 2019, I successfully completed Marabana marathon in an effort to raise global awareness of the Cuban women who are making the most of the least every single day! Our goal was raise $3,000 to cover the cost of transporting suitcases full of the donated items, and we crushed it! A portion of the proceeds also went to the Cuban artists in Havana who helped us photo document our efforts!

We chose Cuba to focus our first international efforts because women of all shapes and sizes lack access to essential clothing items like well fitting bras and underwear.

I was never fully present to the level of power the United States of America had until I traveled to a country that does not openly trade with us. To see basic needs like bras and panties go unmet for a group of people who are amongst the third most educated countries in the world BLEW my mind. I was even more floored to learn that it is virtually impossible for full figured women to find clothing of any kind.

Because Cuba trades with countries that have historically smaller women, clothing in extended sizes are nearly non-existent in Cuba. I know, as most women do, first hand how devastating it feels when you can't find anything that fits you properly. Imagine it NEVER being an option.

If there is one thing I know for certain it is that women are the heart of the house and when we feel seen heard AND supported, that love pours into everything we touch. At THICKLETIC we are committed to bringing ease and joy to as many women as we are able one mindful donation at a time.
